Now that you’ve begun researching your topic, you must formulate your thesis statement. A thesis is a well-written statement that you will be proving in your paper. Remember, these papers need to be argumentative, not just informative. In your initial post, write your working thesis statement (the larger idea you want to prove). Then, break it down into ‘sub points’ or ‘sections.’ These sub-points will become sections/paragraphs of your paper. They should be very specific and focused. For example, if you are writing a paper proving that video gaming has more advantages than disadvantages, each positive you come up with would be a separate sub-point that you would need individual research on. Then, you would list the counterarguments as sub-points, as well (as the negatives). Sometimes you can weave your counterargument points throughout your paper (as you will see below) if a counterargument is directly related to one of your sub-points. After you have posted your thesis and list of sub-points, respond to 2 peers’ posts. Give them feedback and ideas on their thesis and sub-points. Effect 6: Decreases stress/stress management 10. CA: Increases stress (Refute) 11. Pos. Effect 7: Escapism 12. Pos. Effect 8: Increase in dopamine/serotonin/mood 13. CA: Addictive (I will concede to this– but prove this isn’t true for all) 14. CA/ Neg Effect: May negatively affect vision (Concede) SECOND PART: Create an annotated bibliography of 5 sources for your research project. Be sure to cite each in APA format. Vet the source for bias, timeliness, and credibility. Then summarize (1-2 sentences) the content. Finally, indicate how you will use the source in your paper. Each of these should be written in a short paragraph. Attached is the example given in MLA, but mine are in APA, PLEASE.
