We’ve been reading Judith Warner’s We’ve Got Issues: Children and Parents in the Age of Medication and Allen Frances’ Saving Normal throughout the semester. These authors appear to see the world in somewhat different ways with Frances identifying widespread over-diagnosis of mental health conditions and Warner identifying under-diagnosis. Attempt to reconcile the positions taken in these books. In doing so, be sure to integrate information from both books (citing page numbers and/or chapters from the books) and attempt to reconcile the positions taken by both authors. You can also reference any material you’d like from Judy Warner’s visit with our class on 10/26 as well.
In your paper, you should identify and describe three important differences between the positions in the two books and thoughtfully describe how and why the authors may differ.
Whose position do you find more persuasive/compelling? Why? Be specific! (If you can’t take one side, discuss your opinion on this issue and what you find compelling/persuasive from each side).
Your mini-paper should be about two-pages (double spaced, typed in 12-point font with one-inch margins) – and no more than three pages.
