Assignment: Family Map and Family Clock
Using the templates in the read/watch section, work with the information you have regarding Janelle to create a family map and family clock to determine how you can help her to identify the supports she needs to achieve the goals of her case plan. Please take into consideration the new information Janelle has shared during this week’s session (listed below.) Also, feel free to expand on Janelle’s story using your own experiences in the field. After completing the templates, in no more than one page explain why a family map and family clock would be helpful in case planning. Submit the written response separate from the templates.
During this week’s session, Janelle indicated the parenting sessions and the meetings with the case manager were causing her a tremendous amount of stress and she was uncertain as to whether she will continue attending sessions. Her 4-year-old son attends Head Start from 9 am to 4 pm, Monday through Friday. Her 8-year-old daughter is in the second grade at a nearby public school from 8:30 am to 3 pm. Her daughter is often sent home from school due to behavioral issues related to her disability and the school is anxious to create an Individualized Education Plan. When working on this assignment, consider Janelle’s schedule including her looking for work, transportation for her children, attending her substance abuse program, and attending parenting classes. Consider other obligations such as preparing meals, laundry, after school activities, community events, religious activities, assisting children with homework, etc.
Due Sunday.
As a reminder, Janelle’s case study is below:
Janelle is a veteran who served two tours in Afghanistan and has returned to civilian life. She is currently unemployed, although she has a degree in computer programming and strategic technology; she is a widowed mother with two children, a daughter age 8 and a son age 4, both with diagnosed learning disabilities. She is living with her mother-in-law. She is suffering from PTSD and an addiction to opioids related to a wartime injury to her back. As a teenager, Janelle entered the foster care system due to her parent’s struggles with substance abuse and domestic violence. She exited the foster care system and entered the military at 18.
During a previous session, Janelle indicated she was visited by social services to determine her mental capacity to care for her children. She has been instructed that she must attend parenting classes, which appear to conflict with her job interview schedule.
